About the freight auditWHAT WE GOT WRONG
We tested REMORA2 on 150,118 rows of published UK council spending. The first version flagged 69,906 payments as suspicious — 46% of the file, £218 million.
Two assumptions were wrong, and neither was a bug. We treated the reference column as an invoice number; in that data it was a payment number, and one reference covered 716 rows. We treated a repeated amount as suspicious; in social care and grants a repeated amount is the entire product — the same allowance paid to 701 different people.
Fixing both took 69,906 findings to 6,596. Then we questioned a rule we had never examined — unapplied credit notes — and that one rule went from 5,280 findings to 4.
1,320 remain. Every one carries the transactions behind it, so you can check it before you act. A scanner that tells you half your payments are suspicious is worthless. One that shows you what it got wrong is the one worth running.

One evidence package per defensible discrepancy: the invoice charge, the contract term, the shipment evidence, the calculation, and a dispute-ready explanation. A finding is potential recovery. Only settled cash counts as recovered.
